The Stefanos crater where it is possible to walk down

The Stefanos crater at Nisyros, Greece. We visited Nisyros in 2009 when we were on holiday in Kos. From Kardamena on Kos we made an excursion by boat to the volcanic island. First we visited the Stefanos crater by bus. There it was nice that we could walk down into the crater, although the smell was awful. After shortly walking around in the crater we visited the village Mandraki with monastery Panaglia Spiliani. The caldera of Nisyros is 3 to 4 kilometres wide. The last eruptive activity was in 1888.
