During our round trip through Costa Rica we stayed in several hotels. Hotel Fonda Vela in Monteverde was one of them. When we booked the trip we could chose from three hotels in Monteverde Cloud Forest and chose Fonda Vela because of good reviews we red and beautiful photos we had seen on internet.
Hotel Fonda Vela is located just outside the village of Monteverde. It’s possible to walk to the village in about 20 minutes. There you find some shops. Activities can also be done nearby. We went to Selvatura Park for the hanging bridges and canopy tour. This was about 45 minutes including pick up of other tourists.
The hotel is built at the side of a mountain, so the rooms are overlooking the valley. We stayed in a room in a house behind the reception. The rooms have an interior of dark coloured wood, which gives an exotic ambiance. Furthermore the room we had was spacious and best of it: from your bed you also have a view over the wonderful environment. It also is possible to sit outside and enjoy this view.
Hotel Fonda Vela has two restaurants. One restaurant where an international breakfast is served. But they also have local food like ‘gallo pinto’. In the evening dinner is served in the other restaurant. Many hotel guests have dinner in the restaurant because there barely are taxies or public transport that can bring you to the village. Food in the restaurants was fine, but it was a bit disappointing that the bar closes early. So after dinner you only can go back to your room.
Another facility is the swimming pool with jacuzzi’s and play ground with ping pong and pool. Staff in the hotel is friendly and activities can be booked at the front desk.
Looking back to our stay of two nights in Hotel Fonda Vela it actually was a pity that we couldn’t stay longer. A nice room with wonderful view over Monteverde cloud forest. Animals like snakes, capybara and several birds that we have seen in the garden. Nice food in the restaurants and the swimming pool to refresh at night.
