Luxury holiday in Bali

In 2012 I went to Singapore to visit my girlfriend. From Singapore we took a flight for a short luxury holiday in Bali, where we stayed at Melia Benoa. We chose Bali because we wanted a beach destination, but also to do sightseeing. Places we visited were temples, Danau Batur and Ubud. Of course we also enjoyed the beautiful sceneries of Bali with the mountains and paddy fields. Furthermore we did a cooking lesson at Casa Luna in Ubud, which was great.

  • Day 2 Bali Barong dance, Balinese crafts & arts, Danau Batur, dinner at Jimbaran Beach
  • Day 3 BluePoint, Pura Uluwatu
  • Day 4 Cooking lesson at Casa Luna, Ubud
  • Day 5 Kuta, Hope Children’s Home Orphanage, Pura Taman Ayun, Tanah Lot
  • Day 6 Full day at the beach
  • Day 7 Back to Singapore

Getting there

In 2012 we flew with AirAsia from Singapore Changi Airport to Denpasar Airport at Bali. The direct flight was about 3,5 hours and the costs for the return ticket were about €170. AirAsia is a budget airline, so don’t expect too much. But I have to say that the flight was good and the service was fine too. With websites like expedia.com or skyscanner.nl it is possible to find good deals for flights.

Conclusion

The week in Bali was meant to relax after some days in Singapore. So to have a relaxed and luxury holiday, we booked at the five star hotel Melia Benoa in Nusa Dua. But of course we wanted to see more than the luxury hotel and beach, so almost every day we made a long trip to places of interest in Bali. Finally only had one full day for the beach and pool area. But we didn’t regret this. Bali has many sights and places to visit and actually a week was too short to visit them all. My favorite place was Ubud, because of the Balinese arts & crafts, temples and also the paddy fields. Furthermore the cooking lesson in Ubud was great and a thing I can recommend! To get around on Bali I advise to rent a taxi for a day. We paid Rp400.000 for a full day and had our private driver Joss, who brought us to all places of interest. Still, travelling takes a lot of time, although I heard that a new highway near Denpasar Airport opened, which at least saves half an hour. If I would visit Bali again the only thing I would do different is choosing a hotel in a more central place like Ubud. Nonetheless looking back to the luxury holiday I enjoyed it very much and our stay in hotel Melia Benoa was great! Read the hotel review here.
