The good life of Curacao

In 2011 I went to The Dutch Caribbean together with a friend. Family of my visited Curacao already several times and recommended this island. This because of good weather, the relaxed atmosphere and sightseeing. Although the island is small we managed to do some sightseeing daily. Further we enjoyed the beaches and Curacao nightlife.

Getting there

2011 Was the last year that Martinair had passenger flights to the Dutch Caribbean. First we flew to Aruba and after a stop of an hour we flew the last part to Curacao, which only is 15 minutes. Nowadays KLM and Arke almost have a monopoly with direct flights from Europe to the Dutch Caribbean. Cheapest return flights from Amsterdam are about €650. Be aware that it is much more expensive in July, August and December. This because of summer and Christmas break. Alternatively you first can fly to Miami. Return flights from Miami to Curacao with American Airlines are about €270. Further it isn’t necessary to book transfer shuttles in advance. Arrived at Hato Airport there are enough taxis that can bring you to your accommodation.

Curacao was a perfect holiday destination for us. We could combine sightseeing and excursions with enjoying the beautiful Curacao beaches and nightlife. Most important, it’s a great place to relax. If you visit Curacao I advise to rent a car. Public transport isn’t very good and doesn’t go to all places of interest. With a car you can go where you want and most roads are in good condition. We had 11 days which was perfect in my opinion because we have seen most places of interest. Unfortunately weather was a bit unstable, so we daily had several heavy showers. Despite that we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and good life of the Dutch Caribbean and had a great holiday! Read a review about the hotel where we stayed here.
