Sentosa Island is well-known in Singapore and a popular place for leisure. In 1995 I had been to Sentosa as child and I still could remember the green island with fountains, monorail and attractions like a small zoo where you could feed the animals. So it was a shock to discover that most of this was gone and that Sentosa Island became a very touristic place. Despite that I enjoyed my day at Sentosa and also discovered some places where you still can enjoy silence.
I went to Sentosa Island by cable car from Mount Faber. Personally I think this is one of the nicest ways to go to the island. I liked the view from the cable car over Sentosa and also could see the harbor and Singapore City in the far distance.
Sentosa Island still has many attractions like a 4D cinema, luge, skyride and even a Universal Studio theme park. For some history you can visit Fort Siloso. And there are several places where there are encounters with animals like the Butterfly Park, Dolphin Lagoon and Palawan Amphitheatre. Next to these attractions Sentosa Island also is a good place to go for dinner or to see a show like Songs of the Sea.
Perhaps the place I liked most at Sentosa Island was Tanjong Beach. This beach is located at the southern coast and a bit secluded, by that not crowded. Some bridal couples were there to make photos and only few other people who swam in the sea. For me Tanjong Beach was the perfect place to relax after a long day sightseeing and at Tanjong Beach Club you can enjoy dinner with view over the sea. What I also liked are the free and clean public showers, despite that there only is cold water. Certainly after checking out in the hotel on the last day of my holiday, this place was great to refresh before going to the airport.
